Activities of monk Thich Minh Tue have attracted public attention since mid-2024. He practices asceticism, does not accept money, and walks barefoot to beg for alms. He is humble and ungreedy, a virtue that this society cannot find in any state-supported monk. From then on, a series of “hammer and sickle monks” showed their anger and attacked Thich Minh Tue. Most specifically, Thich Chan Quang.
Monks of the state-supported Buddhist pagodas and even the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha were exposed by the “mirror of evil” Thich Minh Tue. From then on, a series of monks disguised as monks were revealed. Therefore, the path of monk Minh Tue entered a period of repeated difficulties.
Initially, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs took action. They issued two official dispatches on the same day saying that Thich Minh Tue “is not a Buddhist monk” and affirmes that his walking in the provinces and cities “caused conflicting public opinion affecting the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.”
However, the reaction of society was not as they expected. Not only did the people not believe the government propaganda, but they also analyzed the wrongdoings in the two documents. In terms of morality, the state-supported Buddhism and the government showed jealousy, in terms of law, they showed an attitude of monopolizing religious practice, contrary to the freedom of religion in the country’s Constitution.
Seeing that using the prestige of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs was ineffective, they decided to use the police to take Thich Minh Tue and the walking group to the police station. They tried every way to make Thich Minh Tue disappear from the public’s search. They let the national television station get involved to do ideological work with the entire population, but it was also ineffective. The people only saw VTV as lying and did not trust the station.
It can be said that the Government could not find a way to deal with the Thich Minh Tue phenomenon. They could not force him to hide, because wherever he hid, people would find him. In the end, they chose to push him out of Vietnam and accompanied it with the intention of destroying his public image.
The plan seemed perfect. They plotted to infiltrate the alms-giving group, with the purpose of monitoring him and the group, and at the same time cleverly destroying his image through livestreams. However, the results were not as they expected. The true faces of the saboteurs were gradually revealed. The plan almost failed.
Doan Van Bau – a police lieutenant colonel followed the group. At first, he seemed to protect the monk, however, as time went on, Bau revealed his true face. He divided the group and at the same time sought to destroy the image of each person who followed Minh Tue to practice. From then on, gossip arose every day.
A monk is recognized by the people as a “rare monk” but there are many scandals surrounding him. A seemingly perfect scenario. However, the reality is not as they want. Doan Van Bau’s mask falls, but the image of monk Thich Minh Tue remains intact.
After the failure of Bau, another comes named Doan Ngoc Hai. This man is famous for charity and was once an official of a central district of Ho Chi Minh City. At first, he came with the walking group. He praised the monk and the Sangha. However, he later turned around and wrote an article to discredit the monk’s image. In the end, the monk’s image still stands tall, and this former official was exposed. Losing his temper, he got angry, challenged, and then showed off his $10 million villa, making the public question the source of his assets.
After the two men with the same family name Doan, it was state-recognized monk Thich Nhat Tu. This monk used the name of the Church to submit a petition slandering monk Thich Minh Tu to the Sri Lankan government. However, the difficulties still passed for the monk, but Thich Nhat Tu and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha suffered more humiliation because their vile nature was exposed.
They sent their own people to follow and sabotage Minh Tue in a planned manner but failed. Recently, the Communist Government allowed the Gia Lai Provincial Government to attack Le Anh Tuan – the older brother of monk Minh Tue. He was disciplined and removed from all positions in the Party because he was accused of many violations during his work.
The online community suspects that the Government is trying to use monk Minh Tue’s brother to force him to retreat into seclusion. We don’t know if the plot will succeed or not. Wait and see!
